Professor Aliyev is one of the leading specialists in diagnoses and surgical treatment of head and neck pathologies. The most important areas of his scientific and practical activity are diseases of the thyroid gland, larynx, pharynx, tongue, skin and other pathologies of the head and neck. Under his leadership, a comprehensive program for the prevention and early diagnosis of head and neck malignancies and pre-malignant diseases was developed.

For the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancer, Professor Aliyev uses the most advanced technologies, such as fine-needle biopsy, radionuclide investigation of the thyroid, SPECT-CT, and radioactive iodine treatment. These advanced diagnostic methods make it possible to determine the presence of a tumor and its extent with a high degree of accuracy, which allows for surgical treatment at early stages.

To optimize the educational process at the branch, Professor Aliyev implemented a modular learning system. This system organizes clinical subjects into a series of lectures followed by clinical rotations, allowing students to practice the knowledge gained in lectures directly with practicing physicians.

Under the leadership of Professor Aliyev, over 500 specialists have graduated from the branch. Currently, the branch has 704 students enrolled in the "General Medicine" program and 18 master's students in the "Industrial Pharmacy" program.

A state-of-the-art simulation training center was established at the Baku branch, also under Professor Aliyev's leadership. The center uses simulation methods to help students, residents, and physicians develop clinical reasoning, teamwork, and emergency decision-making skills in a setting that closely to real-life medical scenarios. These simulations scenarios significantly boost the motivation and interest of those learning practical skills, enhancing their ability to apply them in their future professional careers.

A methodological manual, "Simulation Training Methodology," was developed under Professor Aliyev’s supervision to support these efforts.

The Simulation Training Center’s key projects include: practical skills development and accreditation for students from Sechenov University’s Baku branch and the Azerbaijan Medical University; training for physicians of the Azerbaijan State Advanced Medical Institute; training sessions for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports, and volunteers for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix; "First Aid" training for employees of AZAL (Azerbaijan Airlines) and the Azerbaijan Operating Company for COP29;  a "First Aid" project focused on trauma cases in the cities of Shusha and Lachin, within the Karabakh Economic Region.
